The new Caplio 500SE is an enhanced version of the Caplio 500G wide (launched in May 2006). Maintaining the Caplio 500G wide's strong set of features for outdoor use such as high shock, water and dust resistance, it adds the ability to link with Bluetooth ® -enabled devices such as GPS receivers and PDAs and to transfer images via wireless LAN. The Caplio 500SE shows itself at its best in a wide range of professional uses. It can add location information to photos taken and transfer images to PDAs and PCs to make us of photos by office applications; i.e. facility maintenance and management, and natural disaster prevention for electricity, gas, water, road and other infrastructure providers or local government, police, and fire departments. Images can even be used in manufacturing line management and logistics warehouse management.   Ricoh launched the Caplio ProG3 digital camera with expansion CF card slot in June 2003, which enabled compatibility with Bluetooth ® , wireless LAN, GPS and other functions, and has been well received by a variety of professional users.

1. Built-in Bluetooth ® and wireless LAN functions (wireless LAN functions on model W only)

• Built-in Bluetooth ® Ver.2.0+EDR function. The model W also has built-in wireless LAN (802.11b/g) function.
• High-speed data communications with a variety of Bluetooth ® -enabled devices. Images can be sent by B luetooth ® to compatible PCs and PDAs, or even printed directly with compatible printers.
• Images can be sent via wireless LAN to PDAs and PCs at high speed.

2 Addition of location information to images in conjunction with Bluetooth ® -enabled GPS receivers

• The Caplio 500SE can be connected without cables to Bluetooth ® -enabled GPS receivers to allow information data to be added to photographs taken.
• Once connected to a Bluetooth ® -enabled device, the connection can be automatically reestablished simply by turning on the power.

3. Superior shock, water, and dust resistance, ideal for hard outdoor uses

• The Caplio 500SE inherits the robust exterior, well received with the Caplio 500G wide.
• A shock resistant structure and stronger camera cone create a robust body able to withstand falls from 1m onto 26 surfaces, in compliance with US Department of Defense "MIL Standard 810F". The camera can cope with rough handling outdoors.
• JIS protection grade 7 water resistance performance means the Caplio 500SE can be used to take pictures in the rain. It is even washable and can take pictures underwater in depths of up to 1m.
• Dust resistance satisfying JIS protection grade 6 requirements means pictures can be taken in environments with high concentrations of dust and sand.
• The skillful placement of large buttons makes operation easy, even with gloves on.

4. Numerous advanced camera features that earned an excellent reputation for the Caplio 500G wide

• High-resolution photography is enabled by the 8.13 million effective pixel CCD.
• 3x optical wide-zoom lens equivalent to 28-85mm allows you to cover the whole of a large building, or frame pictures well in confined areas, so you can reach subjects that are inaccessible to shoot at close range. For even wider shots, there is an optional wide conversion lens that is equivalent to 22mm.
• (Light from the flash will not reach the edges of the picture if using the flash with the wide conversion lens attached, so part of the image will be dark.)
• The antiblur function raises ISO sensitivity to allow photography at faster shutter speeds. This feature is superbly effective for photography indoors and in other dark places.
• The high-capacity flash has an effective range of up to 10m for wide-angle and 6.5m for telephoto shots.
• (Light from the flash will not reach the edges of the picture if shooting at close range with wide angle, so part of the image will be dark. )
• The Camera Memo function can be used to attach notes containing information such as the location, to the photograph data.
• It comes with a built-in large, high-detail 2.5-inch LCD monitor, and also an optical viewfinder; so the photographer can use whichever is right for the situation.
• Superior response is achieved, with only 0.10 seconds elapsing between pressing the shutter and the start of exposure and startup time of approximately 1.6 seconds (measured on model B with the flash off).
• The large-capacity lithium ion battery provided with the camera gives battery life long enough for 400 continuous shots (CIPA standard). If the battery runs out, readily available AA-size batteries can be used instead, and an optional AC adapter can be used indoors.
• (The lithium ion battery provided is recommended when using B luetooth ® or wireless LAN functions.)
• Macro mode allows shots as close as 1cm from the subject.
• Skew correction mode can compensate for photographs taken at an angle, so that they look as if they were shot from the front.
• The Caplio 500SE is compliant with the PictBridge standard that allows direct connection to a printer without routing through a personal computer. More diverse printing is possible, such as printing onto forms registered to the printer, when connected to Ricoh's high-speed color laser printers and MFP*.
